Christies Beach Primary School is an R-7 school situated in a picturesque beachside suburb of Adelaide. The school has an enrolment of more than 380 students, which has grown from approximately 300 in 2004.
The school actively promotes its values of Good Manners, Friendliness, Courage, Persistence, Resilience and Empathy and prides itself on its Restorative Practices, when assisting students with our behaviour education programme. To support this approach a huge focus at our site has been the implementation of ‘Play Is the Way’. Specialist offerings include the Performing Arts, Indonesian, ICT and Science, while physical activity is strongly promoted. The students regularly achieve success in a range of sporting endeavours, have been state winners of the Wakakirri Dance Festival and have been finalists in national film-making competitions.
Staff are committed to developing and promoting a culture of care with students, staff and the wider community. The school is committed to the Accelerated Literacy teaching strategies and all classes are undertaking a new and dynamic approach to the teaching of mathematics known as ‘Big Ideas In Number’.
Our school has been involved in the new Teaching for Effective Learning framework, TfEL, over past years and have appointed two leaders to lead our school with our Play Is The Way initiatives and Accelerated Literacy. We offer an outstanding Aboriginal education program that has been instrumental in increasing our Aboriginal enrolments from 10 in 2005 to 53 in 2014.
Taikurrendi Children and Family Centre is our sister site, located on the corner of Maturin Avenue and Price Street.
